Fans’ Forum meeting dominated by ticketing sanctions as Club publishes minutes
Manchester United has published the minutes of the 30 July Fans’ Forum meeting, where the Club’s mass ticketing investigation and associated supporter sanctions dominated discussion for around an hour.
The minutes record the strong challenge made by fan representatives throughout that discussion, although it is hard to capture the intensity or breadth of the challenge made to the Club in the room. Not surprisingly MUST ISLO rep had a lot to say in this meeting much of which has not been minuted or has been included unattributed. But you can tell from our statement the points we majored on in the meeting. It is fair to say that the FF reps were unified on this issue and all reps raised important points.
Representatives made clear their unanimous and complete opposition to how this exercise has been carried out and reiterated their support for action against genuine ticket touting, while raising serious concerns about the evidence being relied upon, the distinction between suspicious account activity and proof of wrongdoing, the fairness of the process and the information being provided to affected supporters.
They also record calls for greater emphasis on prevention, education and clearer rules; earlier engagement with supporter representatives; and a full review of the exercise once complete so lessons can be learned before anything similar is undertaken again.
The wider loss of trust around ticketing and commercialisation was also raised, illustrating the depth of supporter scepticism and the wider context in which the investigation was taking place.
The minutes provide an important formal record of one part of the extensive work undertaken by MUST and other supporter representatives throughout this exercise.
